Acupuncture forms a fundamental component in the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and has established itself as a safe and effective addition, and sometimes alternative, to conventional therapies for certain health issues.
Acupuncture like all complementary TCM therapies is based on the concept of an energy flow through your body called Qi or Chi. This energy is circulated through your body via several main energy pathways named meridians. Each or these pathways or channels is associated with specific internal organ, if any of your flows of energy are blocked, imbalances occur in the effected organ which in turn leads to poor health.
There several hundred acupuncture points within the meridian system, by stimulating the correct acupuncture points along the appropriate meridian with a needle your McLaren Street Clinic Acupuncturist’s can clear your blockages, stimulate organ function, ease muscle tension and rebalance the energy flow through your body’s natural healing mechanisms.
Making an enquiry is your first step to meeting your Acupuncture practitioner and the return of balance in your energy flow. Discover your complementary health options on Sydney’s North Shore or download the Clinic fact sheet today.
When you are seen for the first time, your McLaren Street Clinic acupuncturist will take a complete history and then may use a combination of Eastern and Western medical examination techniques. Palpation or testing of the meridians is often undertaken prior to your acupuncture treatment.
Acupuncture’s therapeutic applications have been gradually expanding in Australia from its initial primary use in alleviating pain. When the acupuncture needle is inserted, a slight, dull pain, tingling or electrical-like sensation may be felt which is called the ‘De Qi’ sensation and this indicates the Qi has been accessed. Once the needle is in place, no discomfort should be felt. In fact, often there will be an agreeable, tingling or warm feeling experienced along the meridians.
Depending on the conditions being treated needles are usually left in place for between 10 and 30 minutes, during your acupuncturist’s treatment. The needles removal usually causes no discomfort or bleeding.
